I learned today, October 20th, that today is the National Day of Writing. What is the National Day of Writing? I actually had to go look it up in order to really find out what it was. Actually, it's pretty cool. It's a day to talk to others about the reasons why one writes. If you follow me on Twitter, or, even if you don't and just look to the left over there, you'll see one of the reasons that I write. There will probably be more over the course of the day, but it's a start.
The reality is that, besides the very large imagination that makes sense when written down, writing is an outlet for me. Not that I don't have plenty of people to talk to, because I do, but sometimes my imagination just has crazy stories in it and the only way to really get them out is to write them down.
As you know from previous posts, I've been trying to be a writer for some time. I have a finished novel that I continue to fiddle with despite the fact that I feel it's a good story. I only review and revise because it has yet to be picked up by a literary agent for representation and therefore I keep thinking that something must be wrong with it. Or at least the first ten pages, since that's usually what agents wish to look at.
And yet, nothing. But it's not stopping me from writing. Obviously, I am maintaining the blog, especially this month since I am writing thirty one posts in thirty one days. Conveniently, this topic appeared earlier in the day to allow me to write about it instead of searching for a topic later in the evening.
I'm also continuing to write in general. There are a couple of stories that I am working on as well as a piece that was inspired by a discussion I had with a few people at work. That story might take a little more time as there will be the need for actual research and that is not necessarily my strong suit.
The National Day of Writing is a great day to remember all of the writers around the world that happen to entertain you. Or drive you crazy. Or inspire you. Or even the readers that aren't published (namely, me) that you still like to read despite his inability to publish a novel. Or something like that.
If you're a writer, take part in the movement. Write well and write long.
Until tomorrow.
