A Sad Note

Today's blog was going to be about something very random and more than likely happy.  Not sure exactly because I didn't have an idea, however, once I got home, all those plans changed.

We've lived in our neighborhood just over two years.  In that time, we have gotten to know a few neighbors, but none more than the older man that lives next door.  Sadly, we found out this evening that he and his wife were hit by a car while on a stroll this morning and his wife was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The reason that I'm writing this tonight, not only to ask for prayers for our neighbors and the neighborhood as it heals, but also to remind everyone that life is short.  One minute you're here enjoying life with your loved ones and the next you're not.

It's sad that I've written blogs lately about dying.  I don't like to think about it because it brings my own mortality into view.  Yes, I know that someday all of us are going to die, but I don't like to be reminded.  Maybe I'm not a realist because of that opinion, but I've never said that I was.  Those of you that know me well know that I prefer to live in the imagined world instead of the real world.  I also know that doing so is not practical and I must live in the real world.

So if I live in the real world, can't I choose the rules?  My house, my rules, sort of thing?  Maybe not, but I can choose what to write about here on this blog.  I'm very sad for my neighbor.  He's a kind old man and she seemed very nice even though I didn't really do more than say hello to her.  I wish there was something that we (Joanna and I) could do but they have requested nothing yet.  We'll be here, though, as good neighbors - to support and to encourage and to help.

When you see someone you care about in the next few days, remind them just how much you love them and care about them.  You never know when God is going to need you.

Until tomorrow.
