Snake Bitten

Remember back in September where I blogged about how cool it would be if the Diamondbacks and Yankees managed to get into the World Series?  Well, that cool ten year anniversary matchup is looking more and more like it's not going to happen.  Not that the Yankees don't have a chance, but the Diamondbacks are sitting on the precipice of being eliminated from the first round of playoffs without really showing just how good of a team they are.

Of course, they are also playing against one of the better teams in the National League this year, next to the Phillies.  Although, based on Sunday's performance, the best team and one of the better pitchers in the NL didn't look exactly stellar.

But back to the Diamondbacks.  Over the weekend, they played their kind of baseball.  Aggressive (which cost them a run in Game 1 of the series).  They played like they have played all year long, but they were playing against a team that has been nearly unbeatable at home.  And while Daniel Hudson had a good game, the DBacks bullpen fell apart and opened the floodgates for the Brewers to take a two game lead heading to Arizona to win the series and advance.

I'm not writing to blame the Diamondbacks or the style of play that Kirk Gibson has instilled in them or even the Brewers.  I'm simply commenting on that blog that I wrote based on what has happened recently in the playoffs.  The Brewers are a really good team and as much as I would like to see the Diamondbacks pull off an upset and win three games in a row to advance, I see it being a difficult, though somewhat possible, task.

The Diamondbacks have been behind plenty of times this season and have won a lot of games by coming back.  Could they come back?  Yes, they could.  It would be a miracle in my books, if they did.  Either way, the World Series is shaping up to be one to watch based on how all of the teams are playing.

Until tomorrow.
