To iPhone or not to iPhone

For those of you who read this blog, you will remember that I bought an iPhone last year.  It is a great piece of technology and even Joanna has to admit that she likes the fact that I have access to not just her email on occasion, but also the Internet or Maps or plenty of other distractions or information items.

I still have the "old school" iPhone 3GS, though, I suppose it's better than if I managed to have the iPhone 3G (first generation).  I thought about getting the iPhone 4 when it was released last year, but then there were so many people that were having technical difficulties that I wasn't sure that I wanted to deal with it.

And now, today, well, technically yesterday, Apple has released a new iPhone.  Not the iPhone 5 that the uber nerds were expecting, but the iPhone 4S.  It's like a mini upgrade or something.  From what I have read and seen, there are some pretty cool features on the 4S.  Some people might complain and say that it is not what they were expecting and therefore must not be a good phone at all.  Plus, Apple has decided to partner with Sprint, so (as some nerds think) Apple must be losing their mind.

But I don't think so.  Everyone wants an iPhone.  Okay, not everyone, but there is a large enough market demand for them that Apple can choose to offer a partnership with Sprint and therefore allow even more people the opportunity to use and abuse the iPhone.  Will this bring down the communication networks for AT&T, Verizon and Sprint?  No.  All of the smart phones that are currently out there haven't done that, so why should this be any different?  It won't.

As for me, I'm not sure if I want to get the 4S.  While it does have some cool features, in my opinion, they don't warrant me getting the new phone.  I'm perfectly happy with my old school 3GS and I will simply upgrade the operating system to 5.0 when it is released to the general public.  Sure, I won't have the cool voice activation feature, but I'm not exactly sure if I want my cell phone to talk to me as if it were the computer on Star Trek.  It's a cool feature, but I'm just not sure if I'm ready for that or not.

Until tomorrow.
