Are You Listening?

As you know, I am a member of audible.com.  I have praised the service in the past (go searching, I'm too lazy to find the links and put them here) and I will continue to do so.  At the end of last month, I celebrated one year as a member of Audible.  As a gift, they gave me a $10 gift certificate.  Granted, most books on the website are more than the ten dollars, but if you look hard enough (like I did), you can find some good "reads".

I managed to find a Doctor Who story that is read by the current Doctor, Matt Smith, so I know it's going to be good.  I also found a Dr. Seuss story - Oh, The Places You'll Go - that is read by John Lithgow.  It's an amazing performance and very fun to listen to.  I know that I will be playing it for Abby sometime down the road as well as letting her read the book at the same time.  The last book that I was able to get with that ten dollars was The Tale of Peter Rabbit.  This is one of Joanna's favorite stories and she has actually read it to Abby, so it will be nice to have a recording of it as well.

I have found over the past year that even though I pay a monthly fee for the service, I am saving upwards of forty percent on the original cost of the audiobooks.  And if you have ever looked at the cost of audiobooks at a bookstore or online, they are not cheap.  As a member, if I were to actually pay for a book, I could save at least sixty percent, which is also a nice bonus.  Luckily I have yet to do that and simply wait for the end of the month and purchase a book with my free credit.

I have said that I'm not a paid endorser for Audible and I'm still not.  However, if you have a commute like I do, you'll find that having something else to listen to besides afternoon radio can be a good thing.  It might take me forever to listen to the books that I have, even though I continue to get one more each month, but I still like to get the books and have them available in case I'm feeling crazy and simply want to listen all night in order to finish.  It's happened before.

Until tomorrow.
