I'm not really a fan of the Texas Rangers or the St. Louis Cardinals, but I am a fan of good baseball. And while errands prohibited me from watching the entire game, I got home just as it started to get interesting.
I couldn't believe my eyes as I watched the Rangers take a 7-5 lead into the bottom of the ninth and then for the Cardinals to come back to tie the game and send it to extra innings. And if that wasn't bad enough, the Rangers managed to get a two run home run from their big hitter, Josh Hamilton, and take a 9-7 lead. Well, the Rangers couldn't put the game away in the bottom of the tenth and allowed the tying runs to score AGAIN! Watching the game on television was bad enough, I can hardly imagine what it was like to actually have been in the stadium when it was unfolding.
Eventually, David Freese came up to bat in the bottom of the eleventh inning and sent a low pitch into the grassy field in center field for the game winner. It was an incredible game to watch for both teams. Each one battled and each one managed to get timely hits. I'm not going to say that the Cardinals came through in the clutch, because that's a subjective statement. What I will say is that no matter what happens in tomorrow's game, both of these teams have finally shown me that they deserve to be playing for baseball's biggest prize.
Until tomorrow.
