Veggies Are Our Friends

Tonight I tried something that, if it weren't to celebrate someone's birthday, I probably never would have gone.  It's a restaurant.  And while I'm not usually one to not go to a restaurant unless it's seafood only, this one would not have been on any list that I might have even thought of making.

The restaurant is called Le Pain Quotidien (don't bother trying to find their website, it doesn't work).  What's unique about it is the fact that everything is made from organic materials.  Organic produce for the salad.  Free range chicken.  They even have vegan and gluten-free specialties.  Not that I'm against any of that kind of food, but most of you that know me know that I prefer meat and potatoes or at least something a little more filling.

Here's the funny part.  As I was searching for the website, I found several people that reviewed the restaurant on Yelp.com.  It turned out that (according to them) the food was decent but the service was lousy.  Even when we arrived tonight, it took several minutes before the waiter actually brought us our menus and then another few minutes before our drinks arrived - and all we had was water.  The best part was that there was only one other group in the restaurant and a few in the outdoor dining area, but still.  I couldn't believe that the reviews were coming true.  I even mentioned it to our friends and they were a little stunned.

However.....

I found that the food was not bad.  I had a chicken Cobb salad with arugula and organic egg (whatever that is) and I was even surprised to find bacon bits that tasted like real bacon, which means it was probably turkey bacon.  All in all, it was a good experience and we had fun with our friends Amanda and Marc.

I wouldn't recommend going to this restaurant if you are in a hurry, though, as the reviews about it being slow are accurate.  We got a little lucky, but it seemed to take longer than usual.

Until tomorrow.
