Today, we went to Disneyland. And though I posted on Twitter that we would be donating Fastpass tickets today, we ended up not doing it. In fact, we probably saved someone from misery by NOT donating. Let me explain. It started off as a weird day to begin with.
Weird Thing #1
Once we arrived at Disneyland, we were unable to head straight into the parking structure. In fact, the signage was telling us to park in the Simba and Friends lot. Well, the problem with that lot, besides being much further away than the Mickey and Friends lot, it also is not a covered lot. Plus, there's less parking there, so it's harder to find a decent spot. Luckily, we saw a sign that pointed us back to the Mickey and Friends lot, except through a different entrance. The ticket person told us that there was a large backup of traffic at the main entrance of the parking structure and they were simply trying to ease traffic before letting more flow through. And, the ticket person also mentioned that we were the lucky ones because they were very close to sending ALL remaining traffic to the Simba and Friends lot.
Weird Thing #2
Looking at the app on my iPhone, I saw that there were not that many people at the park based on the fact that all of the big rides did not have long wait times and the Fastpass returns were relatively decent compared to what time we had arrived. However, not only were there piles of people waiting for trams, but there were a ton of people in line to get past security. The strange thing about this, though? Most of those people were actually standing in line to purchase tickets, not get into the park. So, indeed, there were less people in the park and it seemed as if the day would be alright.
Weird Thing #3
Also in looking at my app, I discovered that Space Mountain, Indiana Jones, Finding Nemo and Big Thunder Mountain were all closed before we arrived and were still closed when we did finally arrive.Luckily, the one ride we did want, Star Tours, had not broken down, so we were able to get a Fastpass and ride it - later. Throughout the day, I noticed that those four rides, as well as Tower of Terror and Soarin' Over California in California Adventure were also closed down. Joanna's theory was that since this was the last day of Spring Break, the rides were finally tired from all the work and simply gave up.
Weird Thing #4
Using the Facebook app on my iPhone, we discovered that two different families we knew were at Disneyland today. One we actually had contact with and the other we figured if we ran into them, great, if not, we'd catch them next time. Not that we don't like that family, it's just that we know they like to have their family time when they come to Disneyland so we didn't want to interrupt. As for the family that we were in contact with, it turns out that before we could get a chance to meet up, they were stranded on the Pirate boat in the middle of the Rivers of America. First off, it's a boat. With sails. Why not just raise the sails and continue moving? I guess that proves that it's not a real pirate ship. Second, it took apparently thirty minutes for them to be rescued and returned to shore. Crazy weird. Lucky for them, though, as an apology, all passengers on that ride were given the Ultimate Fastpass that would work on any ride in the park, except for Star Tours. Nice.
So, with all this weirdness going on today, we determined that someone was better off not getting any Fastpasses from us and simply dealing with the lines the way they were. If they timed it just right, they could get on a ride rather quickly after it reopened from a breakdown or whatever. Oh well.
Until tomorrow.
