Surprise, surprise. We went to Disneyland today. Except today was not like last weekend. There was nothing strange about the weekend in regards to things breaking down or the weather being funny or anything. Nope, all was right in the world of Disneyland because we managed to get Fastpass tickets AND give them away to a deserving couple. Well, at least in our opinion they were deserving. Whether or not they were, that is really up to them and not the subject of this blog post.
The subject, as labeled in the title, is Prom. That annual popularity contest where the nerdy guys attempt to ask a girl out on a date and get flat out rejected. Not that I know anything about that. :)
Not only do the lucky guys get to go on a date with a girl, but then they have to spend a lot of money on a lot of things:
1. A tux (usually rented, unless they can manage to fit into an older brother's or (ack) their father's)
2. Corsage (pretty flowers that HAVE to match the dress that their date is wearing or else they are an immediate failure before the night has even begun)
3. Limo ride (because they don't want to be carted to and from the Prom by their mom (if they have their driver's license, this step is skipped)
4. Dinner (this has to be at a nice restaurant or (again) the boy has failed miserably
5. Tickets to Prom (the girl will not expect to pay for her own ticket, even if she is "progressive")
6. Pictures at the Prom (because the girl will want to remember what she looked like when she was all gussied up before the night of fun actually begins)
And those are just in general. It could be worse. Like today. We saw at least ten couples arrive at Disneyland - in the Prom dresses and tuxes. We couldn't find an actually party in the park that would require these kids to wear such attire, so they had to be going to Prom somewhere close - maybe even at the Grand Californian. Wherever it was, those poor boys had to fork over money for a ticket into Disneyland on top of everything they had already paid for.
Not only that, now these girls are wandering about Disneyland or California Adventure in very pretty, very expensive dresses with a very high chance they could get dirty in one way or another. And I'm not talking food. I'm talking simply the dress dragging along the ground and getting dirty. Or the girl sitting on something and so forth. Same could be said for the boy. Either way, I don't think it's that smart of either of the kids to wear such formal wear to Disneyland. Why not just wear casual clothes, bring your formal attire and change in a bathroom? That way you don't have to chance ruining your clothes and can have all the fun you want? But hey, that's me and my silly logic (and Joanna's, for that matter).
We ended up seeing a few of the couples throughout the day and just shook our heads as we saw them jumping from ride to ride. I hope they didn't ruin their outfits and enjoyed the amount of money they spent for their Prom date.
Until tomorrow.
