Having a baby means a lot of things that you sacrifice - like free time, doing what you want, when you want and sleep. Luckily, over time, babies start to sleep through the night. Even luckier, that means that we usually get to sleep through the night. Some nights are better than others - like we actually do get to sleep through most of it, and some are worse, wherein Abby decides that she wants to wake up at midnight and then at three and then at five and then at six. She'll even do that during the work week, which makes us even more tired.
Like I said, though, Abby has been doing pretty good with sleeping through the night. On occasion she will have a little coughing fit, which will wake her up, but she usually manages to fall back asleep. This is good because I'm the one that usually goes to her bed and calms her down to the point of getting back to sleep. I don't mind, really. Joanna says that it's payback for all of the times that she had to wake up with Abby to nurse her when she was a newborn. I suppose I can live with that and be the supportive one.
It's all about trying not to be tired, then, when trying to live your life. There are some weekends that we need to get going and get things done and one or both of us will want to take a nap. This happened today, while conveniently Abby was taking a nap. And while we both were able to wake up and do a few chores around the house while Abby slept a little longer, we both wanted to sleep more. But that whole "too many things" to do was nagging at us.
Eventually, after our day, we can get to sleep. And even though I end up going to bed later than Joanna and wake up just as early, I don't always feel as tired. I'm not saying that I don't ever feel tired, because I do, especially during busy weeks at work. It's just that at this point in my life, I don't need as much sleep. But I do enjoy it when I get it.
So, a recommendation to all my readers that don't have children just yet: Get your sleep now. Because once children come, you will never know true, perfect rest. Trust me.
Good night. Hopefully Abby will sleep through it.
Until tomorrow.
