You might have to ask yourself what I'm talking about. Well, wonder no more. I'm talking about American Idol, of course. And teh reason that I'm callling out Americans is the fact that for some ODD reason, both Joshua Ledet and Jessica Sanchez were in the Bottom Three vote getters tonight.
Yes, I know that Elise Testone was also in the bottom three, but she actually deserves to be there. So did Hollie, despite the powerful voice she has, she just doesn't have the stage experience and the performing background to really sell herself to the crowd. Joanna said it best in thinking that Hollie is much more shy than they show her on television. This is a perfect description of Hollie and her inability to connect with the audience. Colton didn't necessarily belong in the bottom three (I know he wasn't, but at first it seemed like he was since he was standing next to Hollie), but Phillip did, as Jimmy Iovine discussed during his recap.
Joanna and I think that Jimmy is the only honest person on that show and he's not even a judge really. He's a mentor, but the fact that he's the one who will end up producing the album by the winner, I'd say he has a pretty good reason to be honest with the singers. Yes, he can be harsh and brutal - and honest. Sound like someone that used to be on this show a couple of years ago? Since Simon left, it seems that the new judges haven't really been as harsh as he was to the contestants. Yes, they've said bad things, or, like tonight after Hollie attempted to sing a song by P!nk, tried to avoid telling her that it was bad, but they haven't come out and truly told a contestant that they were flat out bad. They just don't want to hurt the singer's feelings.
And yet, they'll easily sit there and compare one singer to another suggesting that they try something like someone else and when they do and it doesn't work, they will suggest that they be more themselves and simply "own" the song. What?
But getting back to complacent America. The reason that Joshua and Jessica were in the bottom three this week is because they are simply too good that America thinks that they are automatic to move on to the next week. It's not that simple. If America doesn't vote for them and vote for someone else instead, that person ends up safe. Simple math. It's almost like voting in a general sense. You get what you vote for. If you don't vote, especially in the terms of government (Federal or Local), the you have to deal with whatever government gets put in place and leaves you wondering exactly what to do.
Don't be complacent America. Don't let Jessica end up in the bottom three again. You need to vote for her. She is one of the best singers that Idol has seen in some time and she should be winning this competition. And for some reason, if you're throwing away your votes on Phillip Phillips or Colton, then feel free to vote for Ron Paul, Rick Santorum or Newt Gingrich . . . . . oh, wait.
Until tomorrow.
