Unlucky 13

This is the true story... of thirteen strangers... picked to live in a house...work together and have their lives taped... to find out what happens... when people stop being polite... and start getting real...The Real World - American Idol.

Yes, that is the tagline for MTV's The Real World, which, coincidentally, began its 25th season tonight.  Before I get into Idol, I think back to those early years of The Real World and what an interesting show it was.  It started in 1994 in New York and has spawned numerous locales and interesting people.  From Eric Neis to Jacinda Barrett to Judd Winnick to Pedro Zamora.  These are just a few of the people that made a name for themselves, good and bad.

I suddenly have a sneaky suspicion that none of you know what I'm talking about.

So........back to Idol.

As I said at the opening of the blog, all thirteen finalists are leaving in a large mansion somewhere in Los Angeles.  How does this work for the few contestants that are under 18?  Do their parents/guardians get to live there to?  And how is that for those older ones?  Do the parents get on the older kid's nerves?  Just a thought.

Well, tonight, Idol allowed each finalist to choose a song from their own idol.  Ha ha.  Get it?  Idols singing idols.  Very clever.

I'm not going to delve into too much analysis, but I do want to say that Joanna and I both feel that there are several singers there that shouldn't be.  Scotty McCreary, I'm looking at you.  Naima Adedapo, I'm looking at you.  Jacob Lusk, I'm looking at you, too.  And that's just the three I can think of right now.  Don't get me started if I happen to find my list.

Now, don't get me wrong, they are not bad people, they just happen to be not good singers.  Singers that have no business in this business and should therefore not be in the competition any longer.  But what do I know.  I'm not getting paid to tell people what to do and think and say.  If I was, I'd be a politician or a dictator.  Or is that both?

Anyways...I can tell you two people that should make it to the end of this competition:  Casey Abrams (the guy that looks like Seth Rogen and is supremely talented) and Laura Alaina, who, at 16 years old, has the voice of an angel and the power of one in her voice.  Sensitive, gentle and amazing.  Again, she's 16.  Incredible.

What have we learned tonight, then?  Scotty McCreary bad.  Casey Abrams good.  That's right.  The rest is up to you and your opinions.

Until tomorrow.
