Yes, I admit it. I watch Dancing With the Stars. It's kind of funny to watch people get out there and humiliate themselves by attempting to dance. I know I could never do that, so whatever. But this isn't about the show itself. Well, I guess it kind of is because it's really about the so-called stars.
Let's discuss some of the cast: Ralph Macchio (the Karate Kid) and Kirstie Allie (Cheers, Star Trek II: the Wrath of Kahn). Sugar Ray Leonard. Now, he's not much of a star, except in the boxing ring, but even then, only a certain amount of people would really know who he was and that he was a boxer for a longtime. That's about it for the stars. The rest of the cast is made up of people that have some link to fame, however fleeting (Wendy Williams, anyone?)
I mean, I'm sure that getting a call from DWTS isn't what everyone wants, but I think they could do a lot better than picking a DJ. Are they trying to tell me that within the pantheon that is movies, television and stage, they couldn't find anyone better than a disc jockey, whose current claim to fame is that he's known as Psycho? Better yet, there's a wrestler. A wrestler? When did that become a graceful sport? Oh, let me guess, they count the ability of gliding across the mat as they clothesline their opponent.
And Kendra? One of the Girls Next Door? The stripper? The bunny? The centerfold? The one that was a girlfriend of Hugh Hefner? Gross. He was even in the audience and they panned to him a couple of times while Kendra was dancing. Double gross. I suppose the upside is that Kendra no longer has to deal with him. Triple gross.
Then, of course, is the Disney girl, Chelsea Kane, whom, after looking up on IMDB, I discovered changed her last name to join DWTS. Not really sure she wanted to do that. Maybe it's because it would have been discovered that she had "acted" on the Jonas Brothers television show. I would change my name for the same reason.
I don't have to get into the other cast members. This was more of a commentary on the inability of the producers of Dancing With the Stars to actually get stars to appear. I think that Tom Bergeron is more famous than most of the current cast members. Just sad.
Oh, and as far as catching up, it's still possible. Like I mentioned earlier, instead of writing one blog entry for each day, I am working on finishing thirty-one entries by the end of the month. This will still be 31 in 31. So there.
Until tomorrow.
