First of all, let me just tell you that I know that this post is later than some of the other ones. Can I help it if I have a lot to do during the evening? No. And neither can you, so deal.
Anyways...the topic of the day is earthquakes. This afternoon, an earthquake hit Southern California. Upon first detection, it was listed at a magnitude of 5.9. That's pretty big, especially for the area it hit. But then, the science guys looked a little closer at their instruments and decided that it wasn't as big as they first said, and lowered the magnitude to 5.4. While this might seem like only a small decrease, it actually makes me feel a little better.
I grew up in Phoenix, Arizona, where you are more likely to see it snow before feeling an earthquake. Because of this, I tend to get a little tense when I feel earthquakes. And for some reason, I feel them more now than when I first moved to California. I kind of assumed that once I arrived in San Diego for college that I would start feeling the quakes. However, I happened to be in several small ones that I never noticed. People around me noticed them and even asked if I felt them, to which I had to reply "no".
Maybe it wasn't until I moved to Rancho Cucamonga that I started to feel the quakes. Was it because the Minor League Baseball team mascot is the Quakes? Was it because we sit somewhat near the San Andreas Fault? Was it because I was living in a house? Was it because I'm a family man now and I worry about my wife and soon to be born baby? One of those? All of the above? Who knows.
All I know is that after that earthquake, I felt the need to evaluate all the stuff that I had and what I could carry in pockets and in one hand - since the cat would be in the other. I've done an inventory and realized that I have too much stuff. But don't worry. I'll have it all figured out by the next one. I hope. And hopefully, the Big One will wait until I do.
Until tomorrow.
