We rely on technology so much these days. From our smart phones to our laptops to the iPad and everything in between and around us. Computers are part of every facet of our lives. And yet, when technology begins to fail, we get angry, either at the technology in our hands or the technology that we cannot see (Internet provider / network / web servers / etc.).
So what happens to the world when technology doesn't work? I suppose we move on (after about five minutes of complaining that the technology is worthless and we need to toss it out a window). We pick up the pen and the paper and start reading and making notes and doing what we need. All the while we are checking the computer / smart phone / whatever to see if the Internet is back on.
This whole concept of relying on technology is made even worse for one specific group of people. As it turns out, it was a press event - probably not the best group of people to mess with - for the movie, The Avengers. The group was there to view the movie ahead of time (lucky).
As you may or may not know, a lot of the movies these days are not sent on reels anymore, especially these high profile movies. They are downloaded from a secure server to ensure that no one can get their hands on it ahead of the actual release (for your knowledge, The Avengers is being released this Friday, May 4 - and no, I'm not going to the midnight show as much as I want to). Well, the projectionist, doing his job and downloading the movie ahead of time managed to find a way to delete it. Not really sure how he did that or why there wasn't some sort of action stopping him from actually deleting the file, but it happened.
So what happened to the screening, then? Well, all those press were so amped to see The Avengers that they were (unwillingly) forced to wait for the projectionist to download the movie AGAIN! Needless to say, I'm sure that the operator was at least given a stern talking to, if not worse.
Anyway.....
As much technology that I am willing to appreciate and promote, I think that everyone needs to be careful. Especially if you are preparing to show a high profile movie to a bunch of people that can lambaste you in the paper or online.
And that brings us to the end of the 31 blog posts in 31 days. Yes, I know I moved into May this time, but my decision stands - although it sort of has to considering I've already written a post every day for the past month. Let's hope I can be better about writing more often.
Until next time.
