What am I talking about? Another quake in Japan? The terrible school shooting in Rio? The government about to shutdown? The terrible economy? Any other bad news that happens to be going on in the world?
No.
This is about the madness that was American Idol last night.
*SPOILER ALERT! DO NOT READ UNLESS YOU HAVE WATCHED OR MANAGED TO HEAR THE RESULTS*
Pia Toscano - probably the best singer on the show and the one person that both Joanna and I had picked to win the entire thing - was eliminated last night. Eliminated?!?!?! What?!?!?!? How can this be possible?
Pia, the great voice that shined every time she sang. Pia, the beautiful girl that had a smile that could light up a room.
Joanna told me that she feels sickened by the results. So much so that she equates it to the same feeling that she had when Adam Lambert did not win a couple of years ago, when Jennifer Hudson was eliminated instead of winning or when Ruben Studdard was chosen as the American Idol instead of Clay Aiken.
So what does this all mean? It means that Americans didn't care about Pia. Maybe she was too pretty and all the women were jealous. Or maybe people were too jealous of her talent. Or, it could be the fact that everyone just felt that she was so good there was no reason to vote. That's probably it.
Well, she is talented. She should have won, but the whole point of the show is that it is a popularity contest. Whomever people like the most, that's who they vote for. They don't vote for the people that deserve to win. Pia DESERVED to win. Overall, she has everything it takes to be the American Idol. Because of this, now there are only TWO girls left in the lineup, which means that a guy is more than likely going to win this year. As long as it's not Jacob or Scotty or Paul or Stefano, then I might be alright, but really, does it matter now if I watch American Idol? And no, it's not because I simply watched Pia because she was pretty - she was an amazing singer and Stefano should have been eliminated.
She was robbed. America was robbed of her talent. America needs to start paying attention to Idol in order for this to not happen again. I must go now and question not only America, but the rest of this season of Idol.
Until next time.
