Remember way back when, when I signed up for an Audible.com account? Here's a link to remind you.
Anyway....I'm still using it over a year later and I've recently discovered that I have saved myself so much money - over $300 - just by simply paying the monthly fee and waiting for my free book credit before getting a book. And I listen to these books on my way home from work almost every day, so I end up listening for almost thirty minutes each day, sometimes more if the traffic is not cooperating.
But that's not the point of this blog post.
If you look back at that post up there, you'll see that I talked about a book called Death Troopers - a Star Wars horror themed novel. It was really good and there were some neat surprises as well as a good story. I'm not usually a horror fan, but I found the book to be quite good and despite the horror theme, it turned out to be a necessary evil.
Well, that book apparently did so well that the author was asked to write a prequel. A story that explained exactly how events in that novel came to be. Granted, the prequel, Red Harvest, takes place 3,645 years before Star Wars: A New Hope (I looked up the year. Yes, I'm that much of a nerd that I know where to go on the Internet to find mundane facts such as the timeline of Star Wars novels), but it sets in motion events and actions that would live on until the original novel.
That's got to be an impressive situation to be in. Think about it. You write a story and everyone loves it, but they want to know more. And rather than simply writing a sequel, you're told, "hey, write a prequel to the story and let us know how it all began". That's just plain cool.
So far any of my stories that I've attempted to write are all single type stories and would not require any sort of prequel or sequel. I even have a science fiction story running around in my head, but it's nowhere near the page just yet. I guess that's the hard part, trying to get the ideas in my head onto paper. But then again, I am supposed to be a writer and I'm supposed to know how to do this sort of thing.
Well, I sent my novel to another literary agent after getting yet another rejection letter on Monday, so I'll just keep trying (that was a little aside that had nothing to do with the books I was reviewing).
Until next time.
