Dodged the Metaphorical Bullet Again

Yes, folks, it's that time of year again, where I don't have to attend Jury Duty.  I know that this is now the third time that I have not had to go in a row and it's wonderful.  I'm not saying that I'm not willing to perform my civic duty if I actually do have to serve, it's just that there are so many things going on at work right now that it's much better that I don't have to serve and that I wouldn't be placed on a long case.

Some of the things going on right now:
  • 103 brand new computers that need to be configured and moved into not only the computer lab, but into every staff member and faculty office between now and the middle of August.
  • 12 office moves - and not just people, but desks and other furniture that people want moved also
  • My standard daily workload
  • Several committees that are still active in regards to policies and procedures for the University as a whole
I think that might be it, but it is a lot.  So, this year, I am definitely glad that I didn't have to serve.  Of course, last year I was pretty stoked not to serve because I was able to take the interview that got me this job and that was the night that Joanna and I went into the hospital to prepare for Abby's arrival.

Come to think of it....how did I get a Jury summons in the first place?  Isn't the rule that if you are summoned and you don't end up serving, they have to wait at least a year before they contact you again?  By my calculations (and Abby's birthday), it's only been nine months since I was last summoned.  Isn't that unfair to all the other people that should be summoned before or after me?  Shouldn't someone who has never been summoned, or at least was summoned a couple of years ago been summoned?

They were probably thinking, "Well, we missed him last time, maybe we'll need him in June?"  And then it turned out they didn't.  Oh well for them, better for me.

Until next time.
