"I love you daddy!"
It sounds so much better when the character "Butter Pants" says it, but it makes perfect sense considering that today is Father's Day. Before I get started on the review, let me just thank all the father's out there that will, or have, offered me some unique information on how to and how not to be a father.
And we're back....
Shrek 4 Ever After is a good film. Of the four Shrek films, obviously, the technology and the animation has gotten much better. However, the story is only so-so. If you haven't seen it, get ready for a complete detail of the entire story, including the plot twists, the hidden messages and the ending. Just kidding, though, I probably will mention some of those things, so be warned.
Basically, the entire plot of Shrek - as shown in the trailers - is that Shrek is not happy with his life as it has become. You know, married with children, living a life that is a complete 180 from his old life of being feared and reviled by the people. And, of course, he meets Rumpelstiltskin and decides to sign a contract to get his old life back. Shrek has some fun rising up against the villagers, seemingly thinking that it's just one day away from his real life and when the day's over, he'll go right back to the mundane world he was living and be all the better.
After a little while, though, Shrek starts to realize that his life is no longer the same and certain friends no longer recognize him. From here, it starts to play out like It's a Wonderful Life - trying to get people to recognize Shrek and it doesn't work. Overtime, Shrek begins to understand that the life that he had - the wife, the children, the pestering, etc... - was really a good life - just like George Bailey.
By the end of the film, just like the Jimmy Stewart movie, Shrek realizes that his life was pretty good and does what he can to get it back.
The whole point of the story is to remind everyone that whatever life you have is actually a good life. Be careful what you wish for is also something else that was said during the movie. I understand that some people feel that they don't have a perfect life and wish to change it. Sometimes, it is necessary, but a lot of time, people really do have good lives and don't need to change anything.
I know that my life is really good and hopefully, you do too.
Until Next Time.
