I Don't Want To Get Off On A Rant......

First off, let me just say that cheerleaders get a lot of bad press.  They're considered airheads or dumb blondes or easy or whatever other terrible stereotype that is associated with them.  However, that is only a small majority.  Most cheerleaders are intelligent with dreams of being more than a pretty face.  Some even have aspirations to be doctors or humanitarians.

Second, I think that cheerleading is a dangerous sport.  There are plenty of accidents and falls that lead to serious injury.  But people don't look at cheerleading as a sport because all they are doing is "cheering" up the crowd.

Third, cheerleaders, when doing the fancy flying tricks and somersaults and whatever they do when hoisted into the sky have spotters.  These people, usually taller, stronger men, are there to catch a cheerleader should she slip and fall.  This is so the cheerleader does not sustain as serious an injury as she would had she simply fell out of the sky.  Remember this fact when you look at the video below.

As you watch the cheerleaders fall, you'll see that one spotter manages to catch his specific cheerleader.  And yet, the second cheerleader that falls is completely missed by her spotter.  Plus, the three other people that are standing behind the group - in apparent spotter positions - don't provide any assistance until the poor girl is practically on the floor.  Shouldn't they be paying more attention?

This is only one reason that I would prefer Abby didn't become a cheerleader in the future.  It's too dangerous and if you can't trust even the spotters, who can you trust?

By the way, the girl was released from the hospital in good condition, but still.

Until next time.

That is especially scary when you consider that a fall from anything over your own height can be considered a potentially fatal fall! Glad to hear she's ok!
